Sonoma Summit Series

Self-paced hiking and trail running challenge up 7 Sonoma County high points. We have listed them in order of difficulty (in our opinion). We have suggested routes and maps but you can always plan your own route.

This is not a race. take a photo of your your gps route, or a selfie as proof. This is your journey to the mountain tops or Peaks. Post your pictures and timeline of your adventure to share with friends and family and encourage them to join in.

Suggested Route Details: Kawana Terrace Trailhead
Distance: 5.5 miles   Vertical: 1,110'
Notes about Route: Out and Back with a loop to keep it interesting. Middle mountain can be muddy.

Sonoma Coast State Park (Red Hill) Elevation 1,054′

Suggested Route Details: Shell Beach State Park Trailhead
Distance: 5.9   Vertical: 1,309'
Notes about Route: Miles 2-3 can be a little muddy. Nice decent off of the top.

Jack London State Park (Park Summit) Elevation 2,375′

Sugarloaf Ridge State Park (Bald Mountain) Elevation 2,711′

Sugarloaf became part of the California State Park System in 1964. August of 1987 Sugarloaf was designated as the “locally-designated power center” and saw 1200 people show up for the Triple Harmonic Convergence (planetary convergence of Mercury, Venus and Pluto).

In 2017 the Tubbs fire burnt through about  80% of the park. In 2020 the Glass Fire again came through burning more of the park. Before this the last fire was in 1964.

Notes about Route: Counter Clockwise Loop. Fire Road up and mostly single track on the way down.

Hood Mtn. Regional Park (Hood Mountain) Elevation 2,290′

Jenner Headlands (Pole Mountain) Elevation 2,195′

Suggested Route Details: Jenner Headlands
Distance: 16.3 miles   Vertical: 3,987 ft.
Notes about Route: Out and back with a loop in the middle. (Clockwise loop is and "easier" finish).
